Editorial:Regulation of restaurants in industrial buildings
文章日期:2023年9月1日

【明報專訊】KWONG WING RICE NOODLES, a restaurant situated at Kwun Tong's Camel Paint Building, has closed down following alleged breaches of uses specified in the land lease to much discussion in society. Not only is a shop in the "yellow" (pro-democracy) camp involved in the incident, because of which it carries political overtones, but there are also a large number of restaurants and upstairs shops located in Hong Kong's industrial buildings. If the authorities adhere to the law to the syllable, the legality of many of these restaurants and shops will be called into question. In Hong Kong, land is at a premium. Industrial buildings, which are under-utilised, have provided room for small shops to survive. This is an objective fact. Instead of handling the matter ambiguously, it will be better for the authorities to amend the law and regulate the situation with reason and sensibility.
