Editorial : Build HK Palace Museum into a Cultural Brand
文章日期:2022年6月9日

【明報專訊】The long-awaited Hong Kong Palace Museum will officially open to the public on 2 July. Although it will not have free access for the first year like the adjacent M+ Museum, the ticket prices are still quite fair. With the appeal of treasures such as the "Nymph of the Luo River" borrowed from Beijing's Palace Museum, as long as the pandemic eases off and the exhibitions are properly curated, the museum will hopefully get off to an impressive start. In 2010, the "Animated Version of the Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival" exhibition became a hit in Hong Kong. With the opening of the Palace Museum, citizens will have more opportunities to learn about national history and arts and culture in everyday life. The government should formulate a comprehensive game plan to publicise and promote the cultural brand of the Palace Museum in an all-out effort and achieve synergy between the Palace Museum and the M+ to promote Hong Kong as a "cultural capital". The promotion of arts and culture should be people-oriented. The authorities can draw inspiration from the successful experiences on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and take the initiative to develop a market for characteristic cultural and creative products related to the Palace Museum. Apart from tapping into business opportunities, that can also facilitate the development of the domestic creative industry and bring traditional arts and culture closer to ordinary people.
