【明報專訊】Seventy-five years ago, on 5th January 1942, European "enemy aliens" were ordered to muster on Murray Parade Ground in Central and were later transported to St Stephen's College at Stanley, where, in the wake of a Christmas Day massacre and wholesale abuse of the woman medics, a makeshift internment camp awaited them. What followed was an abject (悲慘的) life-and-death struggle for nearly four years. The then 22-year-old Elsa, while languishing together with her baby daughter Mari and husband Tommy, was developing a romance with Oscar, a medical doctor, before Tommy was reduced to solitary imprisonment for attempting to assemble a wireless.
