【明報專訊】After constructing a new Scriptorium (a place of writing) in the garden behind his house at Oxford, by word of mouth and by way of letters sent to newspapers and scholars throughout the land, Dr James Murray said that anyone and everyone was welcome to send him a word or a list of words, citing where they could be found in previously printed material. Dr Murray was interested not just in the words themselves, but where, when and how they had been used in the past.
