Editorial : "Healing divisions" are empty words if candidates refuse to debate
修補撕裂勿空談 圍爐取暖成大忌

【明報專訊】AS the upcoming Chief Executive (CE) election has become a three-horse race between Carrie Lam, Woo Kwok-hing and John Tsang, many groups are conducting election forums, hoping to invite these three candidates to attend. These invitations have, however, been met with different responses. A debate organised by Path of Democracy, a centrist political group, has been declined by John Tsang. Meanwhile, Carrie Lam had as of yesterday (March 2) not confirmed whether she would attend a forum organised by IT Vision, a group of electors from the Information and Technology sector. As the CE election is a "small-circle" one, candidates should try their best to attend every forum to face the public and answer queries in order to increase the election's transparency. As long as the debate will be rigorously and fairly moderated, the candidates should not pay too much attention to the political stances of the organisers. The three candidates have stressed the need to heal the divisions in our society. They should therefore try harder to meet with people of different opinions and answer reasonable queries from all sides instead of resorting to cronyism and staying in their echo chambers.
