【明報專訊】Dear readers, my name is Veronica. Born in the 1980s, I grew up on a rundown public housing estate in Hong Kong. When I was around sixteen years old, my oldest sister was diagnosed with acute leukemia (血癌). The pressure at home suddenly went through the roof. We were placed under enormous strain because of my sister's exorbitant hospital bills. When the going got tough, we only spent ten dollars on dinner a night. We were only able to put bean sprouts with rice on our plates. But we did not whine or complain because we firmly believed we could hold together as a family.
