在本港應對「港獨」 須有足夠法律工具

【明報專訊】THE GOVERNMENT has filed for judicial review seeking to prevent Sixtus Leung and Yau Wai-ching from exercising their powers and functions as lawmakers. It depends on the court's ruling whether the government's effort will bear fruit. The whole situation can be looked at from two perspectives. The first is the continuation of the government's effort to bar "Hong Kong independence" supporters from being sworn into the new term of the Legislative Council (Legco). The second is the government's dilemma when it lacks the legal tools to deal with the "independence movement". That the government is at its wits' end in the face of "Hong Kong independence" is not something we should treat lightly. If the "independence" movement cannot be dealt with within Hong Kong's system, the worst-case scenario will be the Beijing government's interference, for which Hong Kong might pay dearly.
