Eddie Chu, a legislator-elect who swept to victory on Sunday, reported his case to the police saying that the safety of himself and his family was under threat. Meanwhile, Ken Chow, another candidate in the constituency, detailed how he was coerced into suspending his campaign in the final phase of the elections. These two incidents are very serious in nature. The allegation made by Eddie Chu, in particular, will amount to much more than election fraud if it is confirmed. It will be a threat to the rule of law in Hong Kong, on which our city is founded. The government should deal with the two incidents seriously by launching a full-scale investigation into the matter and explaining to the public what really happened.
