Editorial : Setback in digital broadcasting
數碼廣播再添敗績 傳媒營運景况艱辛

【明報專訊】THE DIGITAL BROADCASTING CORPORATION (DBC) has decided to return its licence to the government and go off the air as soon as it has gone through the required procedures. This is another setback in digital broadcasting in the SAR. If it is not the government's policy to plan for the transition of audio broadcasting to digitisation, given how the ecology of broadcasting (including web radio broadcasting) now looks, digital broadcasting cannot possibly survive unless business people do not hesitate to invest heavily in both hardware and software. Otherwise, one can hardly be optimistic about the future of digital audio broadcasting after the DBC has left.
