"I have no money, you see, and I left my credit card in my other spacesuit. They warned me I'd be lost without it," he said. Esper is downcast (氣餒的) for being lost without something implies being unhappy, uncomfortable or even nervous because one does not possess something. "At times like this it's nice to have a shadow. I'd feel lost without someone to talk to," he said. "To tell the truth, I'd be lost without you, too," his shadow replied.
