【明報專訊】HAVING decided to review the MTR's Fare Adjustment Mechanism earlier than planned, the government is going to review franchised bus operators' fare-setting mechanism. Some groups and lawmakers, citing significant drops in fuel prices in recent years, which have not been reflected in bus fares, are suggesting that oil prices be made a factor in bus fares so that the latter will drop accordingly. We must not deal with this issue rashly. We ought to take pains to study it and weigh up the pros and cons lest a wolf be brought into the sheepfold and a well-intentioned move cause citizens to suffer badly.
