【明報專訊】WHEN he answered questions at a Foreign Correspondents' Club activity, Wang Zhenmin, who heads the legal department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government, called the Lee Bo affair "a very unfortunate incident". As far as we can remember, this is the first time a person with a mainland authority has determined the nature of the case. Calling it unfortunate cannot be read as admitting that a wrong has been done. Much of the Causeway Bay Books affair is at odds with the normal course of events, and the authorities now describe it as "unfortunate". That at least shows they have switched from distorting facts to calling a spade a spade. Such an attitude allows Hongkongers to feel better.
