The City Wanderer : Some art, some magic, and some dig-around
文章日期:2015年11月30日

【明報專訊】Every time people lament Hong Kong's "lack of cultural talents", I have an urge to talk back. I would argue that as many local talents as international big names are at work in the city, but how much attention they receive largely varies. Art Basel Hong Kong has no problem making it to the headlines while the Hong Kong Arts Festival is sold out in no time. Clockenflap is becoming a huge rip-off while remaining uncontested in its popularity. Meanwhile, many smaller local productions suffer to survive. They barely break equal, let alone having money for extra exposure. Thanks to the impossible rent and lack of public performance spaces (even busking is officially unlawful in HK), many of these shows are tucked away. However, without institutional constraints, the shows also remain some of the most creative in the city. It's a pity we don't dig around enough for them.
