Unruly protests must not be tolerated
激進人物借題鬧事 警方應零容忍制止

【明報專訊】THE DAY BEFORE YESTERDAY, a handful of people, in response to online calls, got organised and staged in succession unruly protests in Sheung Shui, Tuen Mun, and Tsim Sha Tsui in the name of combating parallel trade. They tried their best to humiliate visitors from the mainland, shouting and cursing wherever they went, and pushing and kicking not only mainlanders, but also Hongkongers. Some luggage-pushing Hongkongers were not allowed to get past before the contents of their bags or suitcases had been examined and their Hong Kong identity cards inspected. What the protesters did violated the law as well as the principles of toleration, civilised restraint, and rationality, which Hong Kong has always upheld. Such unruly and violent behaviour cannot possibly win the support of the majority of the public.
