Pop Around Town : "Man-purse"

【明報專訊】One evening, a group of friends were discussing why fashionable bags had become more and more popular among men. One of them pointed out that especially for urban men, possessing a collection of hand-carried and unisex-looking bags had become an important part of one's wardrobe. Indeed "man-purses", or "murses", have been popular, perhaps associated with the cultural term of "metrosexuality" that began to appear in the media more than a decade ago. Metrosexual men (都會型男) are those urbanites who are said to be especially meticulous (一絲不苟) about their grooming and appearance, typically spending a significant amount of time and money on consumption as part of their lifestyle. I looked into it and discovered that men once carried coin purses in ancient Europe, but by the 18th and 19th centuries, men's trousers were designed with deep pockets to replace coin purses to incorporate an ever-increasing number of possessions (個人物品). The pockets held loose coins, keys, pipes (煙斗), matches, pocketknives, and so on.
