Confidence in "one country, two systems"
一國兩制信心新低 30年勾勒對港變化

【明報專訊】YESTERDAY the Occupy Central crisis showed some signs of easing. Some citizens who had stayed outside the Chief Executive's Office agreed to pull out, and the Hong Kong Federation of Students (HKFS) made preparations for meeting the Chief Secretary for Administration. However, one misreads the situation if one believes the pro-democracy movement that began a week ago will pass thin ice when the HKFS and Carrie Lam have talks, for it is clear from what has happened over the past few days that Hong Kong may soon see another mass protest. The crux of the problem Hong Kong is now faced with is not what is thought about or done in dealing with an incident or two but whether the Communist Party of China's (CPC's) policy towards Hong Kong is such that citizens are confident that it adheres to "one country, two systems; Hong Kong people running Hong Kong and Hong Kong enjoying a high degree of autonomy".
