【明報專訊】THE demand-led redevelopment scheme of the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) has incurred heavy financial losses, which shows that its present mode of operation cannot be sustained. However, as more and more buildings are getting old and dilapidated, the termination of the scheme would mean the increase of potential hazards in our city. The URA should therefore try to continue running the scheme, though the application threshold for redevelopment should be adjusted to make the scheme at least financially self-sufficient. Moreover, in view of the URA's role and functions, the government should try to enhance the financial returns of the redevelopment projects.
